Wayne based the lyrics for "Waitin' For A Superman" on his feelings about his father slowly dying. Specifically, the opening lines come from a conversation that he and his brother Kenny shortly before his father succumbed to cancer; he asked his brother "It's getting pretty pretty heavy with Dad, isn't it?" to which Kenny responded, "It's getting heavy? We're in it, this is as heavy as it gets."
